Sparkling blue eyes surveyed the dusty ground, searching determinedly. Food, hunger. Thought Charlie, sniffing the hot air for remnants of meats or even vegetables, anything edible. His gut rumbled loudly, empty and ready for something filling. The robo-dog had only had a baby mantis the day before and even that hadn't been enough. The german shepard's nose crinkled at the memory of the bitter taste of the bug meat. It hadn't been the best meal he'd had, that was for sure. The distant smells of food drifted out to the hungry dog from the bar windows. Charlie jumped up to the sill, standing on his robotic hind legs as his front flesh limbs anchored him to the wall. He stared through the glass at the angry drunkards who wooped loudly from inside, eating and drinking their fill. Their loud noises frightened Charlie, but he didn't move despite it. He knew they didn't care he was out there, they wouldn't waste their time to scare him off. He seemed to know a lot of new things since his rebirth of life as a robo-dog. Charlie's intelligence had increased substantially with his upgrade of electronic parts. His metal limbs, spine and skull made him feel strong, increasing his courage as well. The dark brown and black canine wimpered to himself, feeling helpless. What was he going to eat? He started to pant, the blazing heat from the sun wearing down on him, soaking into his dark coat. The hefty animal dropped himself down from the window sill and paced back and forth, trying to think of a plan for a meal. Obviously he wasn't getting inside, but perhaps they had garbage cans in the back? Excitedly, Charlie trotted around the building to the back door, careful to keep an eye out if there was anyone sitting on the door steps. With no one in sight, he eye balled a rusty metal cylinder sitting against the corner of the building wall. Inhaling deeply, Charlie detected scents of old meat and cheese. It didn't smell great but it was edible! Trying to be quiet, he nosed off the lid of the can and stood up against it, digging his muzzle into the opening. His teeth clamped onto a slab of sour meat and he retracted it quickly in excitement. The can wobbled and fell, crashing against the ground with a loud crash. Charlie's ears flattened defensively, a look of pure guilt across his face as he scrambled to get off of the pile of garbage that had fallen on top of him. With his slab of meat still in his mouth, he tucked his tail between his metal legs and backed behind the corner of the building. Listening for any concerned bar thugs, he started chewing on the foul meat. If no one had heard him he would check the container for more food.

The bustling party inside was loud and annoying. The thin brunette sat at the bar, feeling smothered as her elbow room was slowly declining. Lots of big, burly men lined the table, speaking loudly to each other as they drank various liquors. Sunny furrowed her brow, kicking back her last shot of vodka. The smell of sweat and dirt was starting to stink up the place, and she couldn't stand these pigs anymore. The tanned young woman left her seat, her leather boots clopping against the hardwood floor as she walked to the back door exit. No one gave her a second glance as she left the bar, blinking baby blue eyes against the harsh rays of the outside sunshine. She breathed in the hot air, her head swimming lightly with the alcohol in her stomach. The sound of gnawing drew her attention to the side of the bar. The garbage can had been knocked over and its contents strewn of the ground. The stench made her nose wrinkle. Sunny drew up an eye brow in interest, moving closer to the noise. Perhaps it was a bark scorpion. She put her hand on her 9mm pistol at her hip, her pinky knub rubbing the handle with certainty. As she rounded the corner, a furry figure sat before her eyes. It was a dog, with metal parts, eating some sort of stinking blob. Sunny squinted her eyes, over whelmed with the sight before her. "You must be hungry, boy," she said with a smirk. "That stuff, I wouldn't feed to a gecko! Here, have this." Sunny pulled a salted piece of of brahmin jerky from her backpack and tossed it down to the poor animal. It was silly of her to waste such a big chunk of meat on a dog, but she was buzzed and feeling generous. If she was in his position, she'd feel terrible. Sunny crouched down, propping herself up against the building wall. Watching the canine with interest, she took her ponytail down and ran her fingers through her brown hair, retying it a little better though still messy.

The hungry animal looked up as a human approached him, his ears pointed forward in attention. The woman had her hand on her weapon, unsettling Charlie. He stood up, ready for combat, his fur bristled. To much of his amazement the human spoke to him softly and tossed him a piece of meat. Immediately, he lowered his stance and started to wag his tail in thanks. Gobbling up the meat, he kept a close eye on her to make sure she didn't try anything. The woman simply sat down though, easing Charlie's mind. As he finished the last bit of the salty beef, the woman tended to the fur on her head and seemed to be waiting for him for some reason. Charlie gave her a friendly bark, hoping that that was what she was expecting. He wagged his tail and tilted his head to the side, his tongue lolling from his jaws as he studied her. Nice human Charlie thought. She smelled of alcohol and sweat, as many people did in this town. Charlie licked his chops, his mouth salty and dry from the meat. Maybe she had some water, too? He whimpered sweetly, crawling closer to her. Maybe if he was cute enough she would help him some more.

Sunny grinned widely at the sound of the dog. He was adorable with his tongue hanging from his mouth and his teeth showing, as if he was smiling too. Sunny blinked, wobbling as she crouched. She outstretched her hand to the robo-dog as he crawled toward her. Carefully, she stroked his neck, scratching behind his ear. His fur was hot and spikey with the humid air. The brunette's eyelids drooped, her head falling as the effects of the alcohol began to digest. She blinked off the drowse, standing up slowly and leaning against the building wall. Sunny gave the animal another look, noticing how much he panted and stared up at her expectantly. She groaned, defeated by his cuteness. The young woman turned around and shifted through the overturned garbage, finding a wide tin can. She placed the can in front of the dog, took a bottle of her precious water from her backpack and poured the contents into it. "What's your name anyway, boy?" Sunny asked, squinting at the dog for any sign of tags.

Charlie wagged his tail vigorously as his ear was scratched, wining delightedly. He watched the human as she stood, perking his ears up with interest. She looked tired and worn out, her body was limp and lazy. When she suddenly turned away from him and started picking through the garbage on the ground, Charlie moved closer, sniffing at her. What was she doing? His question was answered as she produced a metal can and poured water into it for him. Water! Charlie thought, barking lightly in excitement. He stood over the can, lapping up the liquid quickly. The water dripped from his chin as he finished it off, smacking his lips with his long tongue. It felt cool in his mouth, washing away the salt that lingered on his tongue.
The robo-dog sat on his haunches and looked up at the woman. She asked him, "name". He tilted his head, exposing a thin strand of chain around his neck, hidden under his fur when his neck was straight. A small metal tag hung off the end of it which was engraved with his name.

Sunny took the tag lightly in her hand and read it. "Charlie? That's a good name for you," she said with a smile. Charlie was the nickname of someone named Charles, who was usually a respectable person. Sunny ruffled the fur on Charlie's shoulder, patting him reassuringly. She wiped her forehead, standing up straight. The heat outside was beginning to get hotter, making her sweat. "Well, I got to go, Charlie. Bye," she said sadly, giving him a small wave. She turned away from him, walking sloppily away. Her speed was slow and not very successful, often walking sideways. This didn't get her very far very fast. Her target was the old trailer she called home, a ways off from her current destination. A small stone poked up from the ground, right in her path. Sunny didn't notice the grounded little stone and tripped on it, falling with much surprise. She put out her arms in front of her, catching herself. She wasn't hurt, but this discouraged her highly. She got up to her knees slowly, her head spinning slowly as she raised up. The drunken brunette scoffed angrily at herself, wiping the sand from her arms. The sweat made the grains of sand stick fast to her skin, proving difficult to remove.

Charlie flopped down his ears, disappointed with the woman's leave. He had been cooperative enough to give his name, but she had forgotten her manners and hadn't introduced herself. The German Shepard rob-dog barked after her, standing up on all fours. He squeaked with surprise as she tripped, truly concerned for her. The canine rushed to her side, his tail high in frightened excitement. Giving her a few sniffs to make sure she wasn't bleeding, Charlie whimpered in question to her well being. She seemed to be alright, but he wasn't as well educated as a doctor, so he wasn't sure. All he could think about was making sure she was okay. This woman had helped him in his time of need, he wanted to repay her favor. It was in his nature to be loyal to those who had shown him kindness. Charlie perked his large ears toward her, listening for her breathing and if she made any hurt noises. "Arf?" he barked, high pitch as if in question.

Sunny laughed at the concerned animal, standing up on her knees to meet his eye sight. "Sunny's okay, just had too much to drink today," she explained to him. As both of each other's blues eyes stared back at the other, Sunny felt a soft feeling of happiness. The canine seemed to genuinely care about her. She wondered if he had been abandoned by his owner, since he had been so hungry as to eat from the garbage. Not wanting to get too involved, Sunny stood up carefully. She blinked back at Charlie, not bothering to say good bye a second time as she started again, a lot slower and more aware of her steps. Eventually she would get home, and that sounded better than making a fool of herself to get there quicker. The back of her mind was chattering away with itself, thinking of the robo-dog behind her path. She couldn't stop thinking about him and worrying if she was leaving him to his own devices. Her heart was heavy with the idea, though she didn't turn back to encourage the animal.

Charlie whimpered quietly as Sunny started to walk away from him. He stared after her with wide eyes, not sure what to do. The canine paced back and forth where he stood, weighing his options. He could stay here and hope to find a safe place to sleep or he could chase after the woman in good faith that she would let him stay with her. The German Shepard barked and rushed after her, his ears folded back and his tongue lolling out of his mouth in his speed. After reaching Sunny in a short time, Charlie padded happily close beside her, his long haired tail wagging vigorously. He looked up at her, his teeth showing in an attempted smile as his tongue hung from his mouth. Panting, as the heat of the day stuck to his dark pelt, Charlie kept Sunny walking in a straight line, pushing her leg gently with his side when she strayed from her original path.

Sunny turned her head to the commotion Charlie made as he raced after her. She kept walking, trying to ignore the canine. She didn't want him to think that she wanted him to follow her home, but at the same time she did. His adorable, innocent face warmed her heart and made her feel a sense of responsibility toward him. Sunny felt a pressure against the side of her leg as she walked, forcing her curiousity to make her glance down. Sure as day, there he was, directing her to walk straight, a sense of duty about him. The robo-dog seemed to be smiling as his lips pulled back from his teeth. It was the most ridiculous smile as his tongue lolled and his ears flicked around, causing Sunny to laugh hard, finding it amusing. She stooped over slightly, giving Charlie's back a few friendly pats. "You're something else," she told him, flashing a smile of her own.
They continued on, slowly gaining ground toward her trailer. It wasn't far now, just in eye sight in the horizon. The sight of it sent a wave of relief over the young woman, her steps seeming to lighten and her vision focusing. The small trailer stood sturdy and trusty, tucked away at the very edge of the rest of the houses. Its metal exterior was rusted in places but proved to be waterproof at the time being. Sunny pushed forward, closing the gap between her and her bed. After what seemed like the longest time, they reached her domicile. Sunny stepped up her single step and opened the heavy door, amazing not tripping in as she climbed through the doorway. She turned around and looked out at Charlie, holding her door open for him. She glanced up at the dusky sky, the outline of the moon peeking out from the depths of space. "Well come on then, get in here," she advised, stepping to the side to let him by.
