Charlie cocked his head sideways as he sat at the foot of the trailer step, looking up at her. come and get were not usually in the same sentence, confusing him. But, as her last word had been here and she stood aside for him, he assumed she was inviting him in. So, the German Shepherd bounded up the single step into her domain, his tail slashing excitedly. He had not been inside a building in a whole year. The enclosure sent a wave of comfort over him, familiar and relieving. He studied his surroundings carefully, taking it all in. The trailer was quaint, seemingly empty beside the bed, a small closet, one window, a tiny stove, a sink and a skinny door that connected to a small room at the foot of the trailer he assumed was the restroom. Charlie looked back at Sunny, his heart pumping with a fondness for her. Would she let him stay with her? He had long yearned for a companion, someone to care for him as he looked after them. Having no owner for so long had left him lonesome, feeling empty like a husk. Sunny seemed so kind, her scent was already registered to him as familiar and friendly.

The tired human yawned widely, wiping a hand over her face as she shut the trailer door securely. She glanced at the German Shepard, her blood shot eyes half open. He seemed happy to be inside, unlike most dogs she had encountered. Others were skittish and wouldn't even come near her. Sunny smiled offhandedly at him, stumbling over to her mattress. She plopped her weary body down into the middle of it, sighing loudly with relief. "Oh, bed!" she purred, snuggling her soft sheets and cotton filled pillow. Her aching muscles relaxed instantly, her whole body limp. Remembering her guest, Sunny rolled to her side to make eye contact with him. Blue on blue, she grinned friendly and squeaked, "come lie down!" as she patted the empty space on her bed. Sharing her bed with a dusty, garbage eating dog didn't sound like such a good idea, but to Sunny at the time, it did. His big blue eyes tore into her sole, made her feel the need to comfort the poor brute. "It's okay," she added for good measure, pulling her hand back out of his way.

The canine happily bounded onto the empty spot of the mattress next to her, making himself at home as he circled into a comfortable lying position. He tucked his tail tightly against himself, resting his head on the soft bedding. Large eyes watched the human next to him, excitement overcoming the urge for rest. If Sunny allowed him to sleep here tonight, he made the decision that he would stay with her and protect her for as long as she tolerated.
Slowly, his eyelids drooped and eventually shut. His mind swirled with thoughts of the future with his newly found companion. Though it would be strange to him to have a home at last, the idea made him feel a sense of security. No longer would he have to worry about finding a place to sleep safely. Yoa Guai wouldn't haunt his dreams, water wouldn't tease him in the dangerous heat of the day. A final sigh roughed from his lips, his mind at ease as he drifted off to sleep.
