The dirty blonde young man made his way to the bar table, taking a seat in one of the tall stools. The bar was empty, no one seemed to be about in the late evening hour. The noises of gambling were distant but constant, filling the empty room. The smell of tobacco lingered everywhere, making Booker's fingers twitch for a cigarette between them. "Shot of whiskey, please," he said slyly to the bartender, slapping a few bottle caps down on the table. The robot behind the table gave him no response as it fetched him a glass and poured his liquor before him. Light grey eyes scanned over his drink, eyeing the cheap bottle of whiskey the robot placed back on the shelf. "Beggars can't be choosers," he told himself, taking a sip. The golden brown liquid stung the back of his throat as it went down, the delicious fumes escaping from his nostrils. "Whew."
Slender fingers dug in the front pocket of his pre-war, dull grey suit to retrieve a pack of self rolled cigarettes and a book of weathered matches. Placing one of them between thin lips, Booker struck a match against the grain of the book three times before getting a light. He inhaled the harsh smoke, breathing it out slowly into a cloud. He scratched his head with his free hand, undecided as to what his plans were for the night. How he longed for a soft bed, a cool bath and a nice rack to cuddle up with. Booker sighed, flicking his ashes into the chipped wooden ash tray on the table. His pack was light and his head was heavy, he'd been traveling for some time now. The past week he had made his bed beneath the stars, searching abandoned houses for junk to trade at a busy store.
He swallowed the last bit of his whiskey, gesturing the bartender for a refill with another round of caps.

Michelle entered the bar, the hour was late and thankfully it happened to be quiet empty. A fact that she distinctly approved of after a long, exhausting day's journey. She wrinkled her nose at the stink of tobacco never really falling victim to that vice, it wasn't something she disliked but it wasn't exactly a habit she approved of either. Michelle hung onto her caps, choosing instead not to waste them in the casino. It seemed like the best place to get a drink, a clean one at that hopefully. The bar certainly appeared to be better than most of those she had visited out in the wastes. Michelle made her way over to the bar and slid herself onto a stool. Quietly she placed her order. "Nuka-Cola please" Before placing the required caps onto the table. A moment later the bottle appeared with the cap removed. Sighing that would have been an easy cap right there, she took a sip of her drink and contemplated her next move.
Michelle unfortunately for her, stood out from the smartly dressed casino goers, her dark green jumpsuit and unusual hair colour ensured that she stood out like a sore thumb. Still, if there was some honest work on offer she would not say no. After all sometimes people needed a body guard or a travelling companion.

Booker set down his shot glass, taking a long puff off his cigarette and turning his head to the soft noise of someone taking their seat nearby. A young woman in a green jumpsuit sat a few chairs down from him, drinking a bottle of Nuka-Cola. Booker's lips curled up in a devilish smirk, amused and interested in his new company. Smashing the butt of his smoke in the ash tray, he raked his fingers through his short, blonde hair and turned to her. "Having a nice night?" He questioned, folding his arms on the table in front of him. His attention drew away from her eyes to her strange hair color, studying it with interest.

Michelle put the bottle down on the table before turning round to face Brooker. "Yeah just a bit tired from the journey here yourself?" She replied with a thin smile. She took another sip of the crisp, cook Nuka-Cola. Her eyes ran themselves up and down her new company, studying his appearance curiously. Not that she was one who could mention anything to do with appearance, after all she stood out like a sore thumb at the moment. "Have you been here long?" Michelle inquired asking another question before finishing the rest of her drink in a few short gulps, before setting the empty bottle down on the table. She was tempted to take the empty bottle, might be able to sell it for a cap or two if she was clever.

Booker leaned back in his seat, his expression cool and collected. "Fine, just trying to unwind," he replied. He chose not to mention the fact that he was here simply because he'd been ushered out of the slots room for 'bothering' the women. He touched his glass thoughtfully, regretting the fact that it would be his last drink for the night. His pockets were empty from his previous unlucky gambling. "Not long, though I visit this city from time to time," he answered simply, gulping down his whiskey. He let out a satisfied "ah". "I'm Booker by the way," he said, looking back up at her with a friendly smile. Though he knew himself to be unruly and abrupt, he liked to keep up formalities. "May I ask your name, honey?" the thin young man inquired, flashing her a quirky grin.

She chuckled lightly and shook her head. "Please don't call me honey that would make us sound like we where a married couple from the pre-war books" Michelle returned his friendly smile before getting around to answering his question. "I am Michelle nice to meet you Brooker" Michelle wasn't really sure if she should keep talking to him or leave. She had never had much good fortune in the field of romance, mostly because of her own fault. She happened to be too picky when it came to people, she knew what she wanted and wanted what she desired. Of course it did not help with her desire for wanderlust, travelling from one place to another, most people wanted to settle down somewhere. Not her, not yet anyway.

Booker raised his eyebrows, taken aback by the woman's comment. "Oh, excuse me, I didn't mean anything by it," he stammered. The simple spoken word of marriage gave him an uneasy feeling, making him feel awkward and nervous. He lowered his expression, retaining his posture as Michelle spoke more. "Nice to meet you, Michelle." Light grey eyes shifted away from her back to the table in front of him. Lost for words and taken off guard, Booker picked through his brain for conversation. Michelle had put him off, his brain had auto cleared itself, protecting itself from humiliation. He felt dumb, his own self esteem putting him down. Despite his let down ego, he decided to speak to her more and perhaps get himself in trouble. A wide grin spread across his thin face, his eyes lighting up. "So, where did you grow up then, if you don't mind me asking?" Booker's charming voice overthrew his smile, thick and sweet like the delicious Sasaparilla drinks. He didn't like long conversations, but this woman seemed interesting and he wanted to hear her speak.

Michelle smiled at him, a reassuring smile. She had seen that her comment about marriage had unsettled him slightly, not what she had expected there but it probably would unsettle people who barely knew one another. His next question about where did she grow up Michelle needed to think about. She didn't grow up in any one place, most of her life had been spent on the road travelling from place to place. One would think after spending so much time wandering the wastes, that she would not want to keep wandering, to keep on travelling. Yet Michelle wanted to, no place managed to make her want to stay there, to make a life in that settlement. "The road mostly well on it travelling the wastes yourself?" She answered eventually after a noticeable pause. Brooker seemed friendly enough, which was great in her opinion, never enough friendly faces now days. Especially when you journeyed the waste, it made sense there to keep your wits sharp and your hand on your holster.

Booker waved off her retorting questing, letting out a half-hearted chuckle. "Vault 12, biggest and most boring place on Earth!" He gave her a quizzical, interested expression. "Even been in a Vault?" He continued, "Anyway, vaults are terrible. Cabin fever like mad! You can't go out, 'cause there's mutants everywhere, or the air's too radiated." Booker took out another cigarette from his pocket, pausing momentarily to light it before continuing his conversation. "Left soon as I could, I hated that place. I'm a roamer myself, now." He inhaled his smoke, politely blowing the cloud that seeped from his lips in the other direction of his company. "I just got back from the desert. Every so often I like to wonder out there and scope out new places." Booker furrowed his brow, flicking his ashes into the tray. "Rangers don't like me much," he added, thinking back to his last encounter with one of the law abiding men when he was busy raiding an old shack for junk to sell. The blonde young man glanced over at Michelle, rolling his eyes with humor. "That's okay though, I don't like them much either!"

"No I have never been in a vault though I have seen their suits for sale in various places on my travels" Michelle answered, not that she had ever considered buying one. They seemed a bit pointless... As well she wasn't in a vault. "That does sound terrible but I would not know personally just going to have to take your word on it" Michelle was glad that he chose to blow his smoke cloud away from her, she disliked smoking and the way it's thick stench hung to everything. "Might be worth you avoiding the Rangers then.. Less you want to end up in trouble with the lawmen" She commented casually. "I don't for one besides the Rangers have their uses, keeping people safe and the roads clearer than if they weren't there"
